Sally Ride was the first American woman to travel into space. She was born in Los Angeles, California in 1951. While in high school, she became very interested in physics, and she continued to study physics in college. She became an astronaut at NASA, and in 1983, she went into space. Sally later became a teacher at the University of California. She died in 2012.
