Mrs. Reynolds' 3rd grade class began coming to the media center during the 2nd nine weeks to learn about different reference sources. This lesson included not only print reference sources, but our online databases in Cobb Digital Library as well. Mrs. Reynolds and I talked about how they could apply these resources in a specific research project, and she indicated that one of the social studies standards that they would need to address was "Independently discusses obstacles that Paul Revere, Frederick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony faced and how they overcame them." She felt that a biography report that would allow them to share their research and specifically report the obstacles that these historical figures faced and how they overcame them would be perfect. The students took notes and began working on their biography reports! I have included pictures of three of the reports. It was wonderful to see how excited they were about their work.
